Packaging Engineer – Product Development

Duration: 7+ Months, with possible extension
Location: Clark, NJ – Hybrid
Pay Rate: $51.70/hr on W2

Position Overview

We are seeking a seasoned Packaging/Product Development Engineer to manage cross-functional product development projects from concept through launch. This role will support strategic catalog updates, plant transfers, new product launches, and other transversal development initiatives.

The ideal candidate will have strong project management, product development, packaging, and cross-functional leadership experience, preferably within cosmetics, consumer goods, pharmaceuticals, food, or a related industry.

The successful candidate should be capable of independently managing product launches with minimal oversight, driving timelines, resolving roadblocks, managing risks, and coordinating teams across Marketing, Operations, R&D, Manufacturing, and other functions.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and manage project timelines, key milestones, deliverables, and critical tasks to ensure on-time launches.
• Manage product development projects from initial concept through commercialization and launch.
• Lead project review meetings, track action items, and drive resolution of project roadblocks.
• Present project updates, launch reviews, risks, and escalations to senior leadership.
• Partner with Marketing to develop and refine new product briefs and innovation concepts.
• Collaborate with Operations, R&D, Manufacturing, and other cross-functional teams to ensure project alignment and execution.
• Conduct project risk assessments and develop mitigation plans with cross-functional stakeholders.
• Evaluate launch feasibility based on cost, timeline, technical requirements, and sustainability objectives.
• Support plant transfers and coordinate activities between development, division, and industrial/manufacturing teams.
• Manage all aspects of project execution, including quality and development processes.
• Perform feasibility costing, cost-of-goods analysis, and value analysis.
• Coordinate R&D activities and ensure technical requirements are incorporated into projects.
• Research, develop, and evaluate packaging components and solutions.
• Provide packaging and product development guidance to team members.
• Partner with manufacturing and related functional teams to support successful commercialization.
• Ensure aesthetic, technical, and cost considerations are balanced to achieve timely and cost-effective launches.
• Coordinate meetings, prepare minutes, track follow-ups, and maintain project documentation.
• Monitor emerging trends, technologies, and best practices within packaging and product development.
• Support global product development initiatives when required.

Required Qualifications

• 4–6+ years of experience in packaging, product development, project management, or a related discipline.
• Experience in cosmetics, beauty, consumer goods, pharmaceuticals, food, or a related industry preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Operations, Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Strong project management and organizational skills.
• Experience managing complex, cross-functional product development projects.
• Strong understanding of product development and commercialization processes.
• Technical packaging experience is a plus.
• Experience managing product launches from concept through commercialization.
• Strong analytical skills, including experience with feasibility costing, COG analysis, and project financial considerations.
• Proficiency with Microsoft 365, particularly Excel.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to influence and collaborate effectively with stakeholders at multiple organizational levels.
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to drive teams toward project objectives.
• Excellent relationship-building and cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects, timelines, and priorities.
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of projects.
• Willingness and ability to work onsite in the office as required.

• Experience developing products for global markets.
• Experience with cosmetics, beauty, or personal care product development.
• Experience with packaging component development.
• Experience with plant transfers and manufacturing environments.
• Knowledge of sustainability and environmentally focused product development.
• Experience working with R&D, Marketing, Operations, and Manufacturing teams.
• Experience managing large-scale or high-visibility product launches.
• Prior experience within a large, matrixed organization is a plus.
